Basics of 3D design in SolidWorks

In the “Basics of 3D Design in SolidWorks” training, participants:
  • learn about the purpose and benefits of 3D design,
  • learn to model simple 3D pieces,
  • assembly various 3D pieces,
  • creation of a simple workshop drawing.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows
“Basics of 3D design in SolidWorks” is divided into four parts:
  1. Part PURPOSE AND BENEFITS OF 3D PLANNING (2 hours) In this part, participants learn in which areas (industries) 3D planning is used today, what are the main advantages of 3D design compared to classic design methods (paper and pencil), about the most globally widespread 3D design programs and about future development and vision of 3D design programs. At the end we will look up an example of good practice.
  2. Part – 3D MODELING OF SIMPLE PIECES (13 hours) In this part participants learn:
    • how the SolidWorks user interface works,
    • the basic rules of 3D design that apply to most 3D design programs,
    • about the correct concept of designing simple 3D models in SolidWorks
    • to use basic tools for 3D modelling of simple pieces on practical examples,
    • to design different 3D models in SolidWorks.
  3. Part – Design of simple 3D assemblies (5 hours) In this part, participants learn about what 3D assemblies are used for. They learn the basic rules of designing 3D assemblies that apply to most 3D design programs. Participants learn about the correct concept of designing 3D assemblies in SolidWorks. On practical examples, they learn to use the basic tools for designing simple 3D assemblies in SolidWorks. In SolidWorks various 3D assemblies are planned by participants.
  4. Part – Making workshop drawings (5 hours) In this part, participants learn about what a workshop drawing is used for. Participants learn the basic rules of workshop drawing that apply to most 3D design programs. Participants learn about the correct concept of making a workshop drawing in SolidWorks. On practical examples, they learn to use the basic tools for creating a workshop drawing in SolidWorks. SolidWorks produces a variety of workshop drawings.
Participant:
  • draws up a plan for the model in a software environment for 3D modelling (SolidWorks)
  • makes technical documentation in a software environment for 3D design (SolidWorks)
  • Design of the mechanical part of the model
  • Construction of the mechanical part of the model

Aleš Kozjek has more than 20 years of experience in the industry in the field of toolmaking and CAD-CAM technologies. For the first 10 years he worked in the company Iskra OTC d.o.o., where he started to work in the field of toolmaking. Later he was actively involved in design, technology and production. For another 10 years he was employed by Solid World d.o.o., initially in the section for education and technical support of users, later in sales in marketing, and last year as the head of the SolidCAM department, which is today one of the leading programs for programming CNC machines in Slovenia. For the last four years he has been employed as a teacher of professional subjects and practical lessons at the Kranj School Center.
